Ignacio Mujica, partner at VGC Abogados, played a prominent role as a panelist at the IBA War Crimes Committee Conference 2026: Masters of War, organized by the International Bar Association (IBA) to gather leading international law professionals in The Hague, Netherlands.

The conference was held on April 18, 2026, at the Spui campus of Leiden University, in the heart of The Hague, a representative city for international law and home to the International Criminal Court and the International Court of Justice. The event, presented by the IBA War Crimes Committee, addressed fundamental issues: the challenges of international justice, the trade-offs between war, supplies, and commercial gains, the use of artificial intelligence in armed conflicts, and the critical relationship between climate change and armed conflict.

Ignacio Mujica spoke on the panel entitled “Climate: Collateral and Catalyst”, which addressed the impact of climate change on conflicts, causing forced displacement and its increasing use as a weapon for war. The discussion deepened into the massive ecological damage resulting from severe military actions and the challenges of addressing these serious issues in international forums, such as the International Criminal Court.

The panel was moderated by Elsa Sage Wyllie of Arendt Chambers (Vancouver, Canada) and included leading international experts, among them Pricila Cardoso de Aquino, representing the Environmental Defender Law Center of Brazil; Maksym Popov, from the Embassy of Ukraine in the Netherlands; and Charles-Edouard Renault, a member of the prestigious French law firm De Gaulle Fleurance.
